We’re called seniors, golden-agers, geezers, old hippies, senior citizens and whatever other tag the youngsters and the media can think up. My name for us is, “grayzies.” A little crazy and a little gray…..still full of the spirit of the 60’s only moving a litle slower. Hopefully we are wiser and have kept our hearts young and our minds open.
 

We lived through an incredible period of creativity and imagination. The arts, music, and thinking of the period between 1965 and 1972 reached a very “high” level in many ways.

The young people today are still fascinated with the artists and musicians of that period. Yes, the dream seemingly collapsed  due to the pressures of the war in Vietnam, and those in power who did not want what they interpreted as a revolution, to progress any further.  The direction was lost, but not the spirit!

The “flower power and peace movement” that peaked at Woodstock and hit bottom at Altamont was ending rapidly and not so peacefully.

We were then taken on a ride through disco-mania and Wall Street where expensive clothes, cars, houses, wine and luxury became the new utopian dream. I.m here to tell you the dream-seed that was planted 40 years ago is not only still alive, it is blossoming in ways we never could have imagined. The answer my friend is blowin’ in the wind.

There’s a new reality poking through the old one. Look around and you can see it happening. The middle class is finally realizing that the powers that be are not really their friends. Going “green” is now in vogue. Starting your own business, taking care of yourself and your friends and family and becoming less dependent on the government and big business to take care of things is a real movement. The internet has opened up channels of communication at the speed of broadband. We are connected as never before. It is my goal to keep you informed of some of the things I feel are going to be important to us as we enjoy the grayzie years of life.

Today, I want to talk about financial reality.

A new phase of reality is emerging once again. It is time to become less dependent on others and more self reliant in every area of our lives. Counting on keeping our jobs and investing for retirement and hoping social security will still be around is old reality thinking.

 With the power and reach of the internet,  we can begin taking control of our own financial future. The learning curve is steep, but it beats the heck out of depending on the old ways. This is not the time to be lazy, or think that you can just wait it all out, hoping things return to “normal.” Working for someone else, investing in stocks, or real estate, or spending a ton of money opening up your own business venture is no longer the way to go.

I have been investigating ways to make enough money to replace my job and create a retirement income for myself. This  turned into a time consuming task far beyond I ever imagined. It seems like every scam artist with a computer is out there trying to sell their get rich quick systems. Don’t despair!

My research has paid off and I want to share what I have found with you.
